Payments Ops Analyst
Job Description: Payments Operations (Failure Diagnostics Focus)
Location: Remote (India)
Type: Full-time
Role Overview
We are hiring a Payments Operations professional to own and debug transaction failures end-to-end in a fast-paced fintech environment.
This role is not just about monitoring or reconciliation — the core focus is:
- Diagnosing why payments fail
- Resolving issues across systems, partners, and flows
- Understanding domestic and cross-border payment lifecycles deeply
The ideal candidate should be able to step in on Day 1 and debug a failed transaction independently.
What You’ll Do
1.Transaction Flow Ownership
- Understand and manage end-to-end payment lifecycle (initiation → processing → settlement)
- Work across payment rails: UPI, Cards, Netbanking, Wallets, and cross-border rails (SWIFT, etc.)
2.Failure Diagnosis (Core Responsibility)
- Investigate and debug failed transactions end-to-end
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) across:
- Payment gateways
- Banking partners
- Internal systems
- Identify failure patterns and drive resolution
3.Resolution Ownership
- Personally own and resolve transaction issues
- Avoid pure escalation dependency — expected to close loops independently
- Collaborate with internal teams, banks, and partners to fix issues
4.Cross-Border Payment Understanding
- Work with multi-currency and international payment flows
- Understand settlement flows, FX implications, and partner dependencies
5.Startup Execution
- Operate in a high-ambiguity, fast-paced environment
- Be comfortable with early working hours (starting ~7 AM)
- Take initiative without structured processes
Must-Have Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
1.Payment Flow Understanding
- Clear understanding of how a transaction works end-to-end
- Exposure to multiple payment methods and systems
2.Failure Debugging Experience
- Proven ability to analyze and diagnose payment failures
- Hands-on RCA experience (not just monitoring dashboards)
3.Ownership Mindset
- Demonstrated experience personally resolving transaction issues end-to-end
- Not limited to escalation or coordination roles
4.Cross-Border Exposure
- Experience with international payments / multi-currency flows
- Understanding of global payment rails (e.g., SWIFT)
5.Startup Fit
- Comfortable with ambiguity, speed, and ownership
- Willingness to work in early-hour, high-responsibility setup
Good to Have
- Experience in fintech or high-growth startup environments
- Exposure to fraud, disputes, or chargebacks
- Strong analytical skills (Excel / SQL)
Not a Fit If
- Experience is limited to reconciliation, settlements, or reporting
- No hands-on failure debugging ownership
- Pure lending, KYC, AML, or compliance-heavy background
- No exposure to end-to-end payment lifecycle
How Success is Evaluated
Candidates will be assessed on:
- Ability to explain a payment flow end-to-end
- Depth in debugging failed transactions
- Evidence of ownership in resolving issues
- Understanding of cross-border payments
- Alignment with startup execution style
