We are seeking a Founding Tech Lead to build and scale the entire engineering function for a fast-growing consumer-tech marketplace startup. This is a 0→1 leadership role, responsible for defining architecture, building systems from scratch, and scaling the platform to support real-world, ops-heavy use cases.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7-12 years of experience in backend or full-stack engineering
- Strong experience in building systems from 0→1 and scaling from 1→10 (or beyond)
- Proven expertise in system design, distributed systems, and microservices architecture
- Experience working in marketplace, mobility, logistics, or ops-heavy environments
- Strong backend proficiency (Java / Go / Node.js / Python or similar)
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS / GCP / Azure) and modern infrastructure practices
- Ability to balance hands-on execution with architectural thinking and leadership
- Strong problem-solving ability with a business-first mindset
Responsibilities
- Own and define the end-to-end architecture, building scalable backend systems and distributed services from scratch
- Lead 0→1 product development, translating business requirements into robust, production-ready tech solutions
- Design and optimize systems for marketplace dynamics including transactions, supply-demand, pricing, and workflows
- Hire, mentor, and build the initial engineering team (4-6 engineers) while establishing strong engineering practices
- Partner closely with founders on product roadmap, tech strategy, and execution, balancing speed, scale, and reliability
